五、摘要:

Oxygen electrocatalysis sets a cornerstone for electrocatalytic energy conversion techniques such as fuel cells, electrolyzers and metal-air batteries. The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is the limiting factor in cell efficiency for conventional water electrolyzer and a sustainable corresponding reaction for emerging CO2 electrolysis. Despite enormous number of publications each year, evaluation of intrinsic activity of metal-oxide OER electrocatalysts is relatively rare. Most of reports aim to highlight the claimed “high activity” without deciphering bulk/surface transformation of materials under reaction conditions and understanding the real active sites of studied catalysts. In contrast to heterogeneous thermal catalysis, charge transfer at solid-electrolyte interface and stability of pristine or evolved crystal structure in aqueous environment determine the electrocatalysis itself. Here two showcases will be shared to emphasize the importance of the aforementioned factors: (1) ex-situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy at O K-edge for qualitative analyse the structure-related surface reconstruction in Ruddlesden-Popper lanthanum nickelates and (2) in-situ hard X-ray spectroscopy at Ir LIII-edge to quantify the interatomic structure of hydrous iridium oxide evolved from bimetallic Ir-based nanocrystals. The talk will finish with a brief view of the experience to properly perform lab-scale electrocatalytic studies using conventional three-electrode system and analyze data from-ray spectroscopies.
